As curtains draw on 2018, Viacom18-owned Hindi GEC Colors has lined up a slew of shows in early 2019 to keep up competitive intensity high in the genre.
On the anvil are a slew of shows across diverse genres. The line-up includes fiction shows like ‘Kesari Nandan’, ‘Gathbandhan’, ‘Courtroom’, and ‘Jhansi’. Apart from the fiction line-up, the channel will also launch the season 9 of ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi’.
The first show to roll-out from the stable is ‘Kesari Nandan’ on 1 January followed by ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi 9’ on 5 January. The other shows are expected to launch in the first quarter of the calendar year 2019.
Commenting on the content line-up, Viacom18 Head of Hindi Mass Entertainment and Kids TV Network Nina Elavia Jaipuria said, “New Year will mark the advent of a fresh line-up of relatable content that will add newness to our bouquet of offerings. We will begin the year with the weekday prime-time, Kesari Nandan. The weekend primetime will be bolstered by Khatron Ke Khiladi and a crime-drama called Courtroom. Further along the way, we have gripping concepts in the form of Jhaansi Ki Rani and Gathbandhan that will make the channel distinct and diverse.”
‘Kesari Nandan’ is a story of a dogged little girl, Kesari, and her custom-binding father, Hanumant Singh. Produced by Contiloe Pictures, the show will air every Monday to Friday at 8:30 pm.
The journey begins in Rajasthan where Hanumant Singh trains young guns for wrestling in his akhada. He is a man who believes that men and women have set roles in society and must remain confined to them.
He is also a father who aspires for his son to win the country an Olympic gold medal in wrestling, however, it’s his daughter Kesari who secretly harbors the desire to uphold her father’s legacy. With an undeterred resolve, Kesari sets off to do something unthinkable much against the will of her father and challenging mindsets along the way.
After ‘Kesari Nandan’, Colors will set out to launch its non-fiction franchise ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi’. Produced by Endemol Shine India, the show will air every Saturday and Sunday at 9 pm with Rohit Shetty as the host.
In season 9, the theme of the show will be ‘Jigar Pe Trigger’ that will push the 12 contestants out of their comfort zones and strengthen them to perform stunts in the scenic locales of Argentina.
The contestants include Vikas Gupta, Sreesanth, Puneet Pathak, Shamita Shetty, Bharti Singh along with her husband Harsh Limbachiya, Jasmine Bhasin, Ridhima Pandit, Avika Gor, Aly Gony, Zain Imam and Aditya Narayan.
‘Gathbandhan’ is an edgy love story between an IPS officer Dhanak who marries a gangster Raghu. ‘Courtroom’ is a fictionalised series of real-life court cases that will showcase the journey of a victim from the crime to the verdict. Revisiting the past will be a show titled ‘Jhansi’ which will narrate the story of Rani Lakshmibai who fought against the British with all her grit.
